Virtual Cub Scouts Day

Event Type: K-12 Outreach Hours

[PLEASE READ THE ENTIRE DESCRIPTION]: At Cub Scouts Day, one of TBP MI-Gamma's signature events, we teach Cub Scouts to explore the world of engineering and earn their Engineering Adventure badge! Scout Packs from Michigan and across the Midwest participate in this event every semester, and have an incredible time having fun and learning.

For the event, we will teach the Scouts about engineering in a fun environment through numerous activities, including an electronics module, a bridge module, a catapult module, and the most popular part: designing a landing craft for an egg drop! Scouts will also have the opportunity to engage with engineering students from a variety of disciplines, and learn more about what it means to be an engineer.

This semester, in a novel development for the chapter, Cub Scouts Day will be held virtually ( The event will be divided into three shifts, where the first (Shift 1, 9:45 AM to 12:30 PM) and third shift (Shift 3, 1:15 PM to 4:00 PM) use a kit of materials to solve engineering tasks, while the second shift (Shift 2, 12:15 PM to 1:30 PM) is an optional student panel. Not all participants must partake in the panel, and volunteers that are not partaking in the panel will be able to use some of this time for lunch/bio breaks.

Regardless, for Shifts 1 & 3 (Morning, Afternoon), having a kit is vitally important for this event. Distributing kits requires time and effort. To reflect these requirements, new sign ups will be locked on April 4 (unless you live in Ann Arbor; if so, contact to be added and pick up a kit).

IMPORTANT REQUEST 1): If you are able to attend the entire event, please sign up for the full day shift (9:45 AM to 4:15 PM). The time when shift two (Lunch) is running will be downtime/lunch opportunity for volunteers who sign up for the full day shift. Otherwise, to simplify transportation and shipping logistics, if you sign up for either the first or third shifts, we request that you (at least) sign up for the other. We do recognize that this is an incredible time commitment on your part, and thank you in advance for helping us making event logistics easier.

IMPORTANT NOTICE 2) If you only sign up for the Second Shift (Lunch), be prepared to be a student panelist. If you are not comfortable doing this, let us know in advance. If you do not, you will not be awarded hours for the event.

Project Leaders: 🐧Erik Radakovich (eradakov), Dr. David Thomas Martel (damartel), His Royal Majesty Michael Lee Benson (mlbenson), πŸ»β€β„οΈ Zehua Li (simonli), and Megan Busch (buschme)
