NROTC Group Tutoring (Mar. 27, 29)

The Navy Reserve Officers' Training Corps (NROTC) at the University of Michigan has academic standards and is looking for tutors to assist their students, with a focus on introductory Math and Physics courses:

You will report to the NROTC wardroom (CHEM 1018), located on the west side of the chemistry building. The fastest way to find it is to use the entrance nearest to the kinesiology building and immediately turning right. Check in with Hope Peck, the NROTC Academics Officer, once you arrive, who will make sure you get credit for tutoring.

Prep for MindSET: Lean Manufacturing Game

Hands-on activity for 3rd-5th graders to learn some basics of lean manufacturing and the industrial engineering field.
Challenge: we simulate (this is a physical simulation, and no computer is involved) a lampshade manufacturing assembly line where students will play as workers. The game has a few scenarios, and after each round, we debrief and reflect on how the game went, what went right and wrong, and why.
Learning objectives: describing what industrial engineers do, defining lean manufacturing principles and their advantages/disadvantages, and describing the flaws that keep manufacturing from being lean.
Focus: the main focus is on promoting active learning, meaning that volunteers and leaders walk children through finding the correct answer by asking questions.
