Reducing methane emissions in the United States and globally remains an important and timely research topic. Methane emissions from oil and gas flaring have been demonstrated to be up to five times higher than EPA inventories, indicating discrepancies between bottom-up (e.g., EPA) and top-down (e.g., airborne sampling or satellite imagery) estimates. Estimates may also undercount low-flow flares that are more susceptible to crosswind. This presentation will examine flare volume estimates through bottom-up and top-down lenses, followed by new experimental data on methane destruction efficiencies of low-flow utility flares. Experimental results will be scaled to state-level methane emissions using local flare data, and practical mitigation strategies for reducing emissions will be discussed.

Engineering day for Girl scouts

We are organizing Engineering day for Girl scouts for the first time in collaboration with GradSWE and MEGC. We will invite brownie and junior Girl scouts to the north campus of University of Michigan. We've lined up a bunch of fun STEM activities for the scouts that day: earthquake challenge, a Slime Egg Drop, a Balloon-Powered Car challenge, and an EECS scavenger hunt. The Winter 2025 Semesterly Banquet

Each semester, the outstanding members of the chapter are recognized at a dinner/awards ceremony hosted immediately following initiation. The best electees, electee teams, project leads, and more are recognized. Superlatives are exchanged, and a fun activity is given to the attendees. This friendly competition ends the night after recognizing the achievements of the chapter and its members over the past semester.
We have several MANDATORY requirements, detailed in the Official TBP MI-G Banquet Sign-up form. Admittance will not be approved without completing all the requirements, so read carefully and direct questions to tbp.banquet@umich.edu or Kayley Ge.

The Order of the Engineer Ceremony seeks to promote professionalism and ethics in engineering. Graduates who participate in the ceremony receive a special ring to remind them of their responsibility as an engineer. The event is available to all graduating students in the College of Engineering.

Summer Engineering Exploration Camp Counselor

The Society of Women Engineers (SWE) is recruiting counselors for their annual Summer Engineering Exploration Camp, a week-long opportunity for high school students to dive into STEM-related interests. This popular camp receives around 400 applicants every season and is an incredible way to inspire the next generation of engineers.
