For a little background on Book Swap...

TBP runs and organizes the Tau Beta Pi Book Swap at the start of each semester. Over the last few years, this event has rapidly expanded into a major, very successful event and is a very important project that our chapter pursues. At this point, we are looking for three chairs to organize next semester's Book Swap.

Book Swap operates during the first two weeks of the semester, starting with a book drop-off phase. Potential sellers give us their books, which we catalog, sort, and attempt to sell in the second phase. Many students try to buy books during book swap because of the major savings. After the selling phase, we process payments to the sellers whose books sold (minus a small commission to cover our costs) and return unsold books to their owners.

I can tell you from my own experience that chairing Book Swap is an extraordinary opportunity. It gives you good exposure to the chapter, the officers, and different university offices/units. It is also an excellent leadership experience that can serve as a springboard to other positions in the chapter. Lastly, it is a great way to quickly earn a ton of service hours. And the great thing is it all happens before classes ramp up! No previous experience or involvement is necessary so all (including electees) are encouraged to apply!

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me (Scott Cooper - smcoop@umich.edu ). I’m more than happy to talk to you about my experience with Book Swap!
